Positioned on a high point at the Promenade at Castle Rock, this park brings users to eye level with the horizon and plays with the perception and experience of clouds in the open sky. This altered relationship with the atmosphere inspired a series of custom forms throughout the park relating to common clouds in the area: Cirrus, nimbostratus, altocumulus, cirrostratus.
A network of serpentine paths winds through the space and creates a journey through a number of unique spaces and experiences. At the entrance of the park, a large shade structure modeled after a cirrus cloud formation sits adjacent to the open community lawn space. The main path curves around the lawn, leading into a denser deciduous canopy. A reflective installation, inspired by nimbostratus clouds, forces observers to experience clouds from a different perspective. Hammocks are dispersed throughout the forest to create moments of pause and relaxation almond the trees. Nestled in a curve of the path, a community table sits under a trellis inspired by the shape of altocumulus. The path wraps around a sunken circular fireplace providing a cozy and intimate space overlooking the plains. At the end of the path, a deck hovers above a meadow of native grass and flowers. The final shade structure mimics a cirrostratus cloud and is fashioned with swings to allow users the feeling of floating.
