The award jury noted that the Bluff Lake Nature Center landscape design was selected for the award because the project “…stood out as well conceived with a broad perspective on the landscape and region. The design considered how to make connections to the larger landscape, while applying practical proposals for the topography and horticulture, knitting together a mosaic of natural gardens across the site and with different topographic elements. The project will be beautiful, sustainable, and incorporates thoughtfulness around the experience of the landscape as you move from one microclimate to another. It will be both an educational experience and enriching of the site.”
The Bluff Lake Nature Center is an incredible organization that reaches diverse communities by providing a unique experience of nature in the city. Since 2022, Superbloom has collaborated with BLNC along with Shape Architecture Studio and surrounding communities to create an inclusive vision for the campus improvements, and a landscape design that celebrates our Colorado native landscapes.
An award like this shows how a community-driven design can create outdoor spaces where everyone can feel welcome. We are excited to bring these new perspectives and processes for working together to improve wild spaces in urban areas like Denver.
Thank you to everyone who has supported and contributed to this project, and thank you to the Jeff Harnar Award 2024 jury!
