Green Street Sustainability Park
Increasing Climate Resiliency in Ridgway’s Newest Park
The new 6.98 acre Green Street Sustainability Park aims to become an exceptional outdoor amenity and model for sustainability in the growing town of Ridgway.
We are excited to bring the community’s vision to life through a comprehensive master plan that integrates sustainability-focused concepts, solar energy production, community input, and best practices by showcasing climate-friendly and sustainable design principles.
Located within a growing neighborhood and close to a school, we have imagined an innovative future for Green Street Sustainability Park that offers both resilience and multigenerational appeal within a passive public park setting.
The primary themes for this project– power, people, and plants– we will unlock a whole host of co-benefits for the community, including the integration of the existing and well-loved community garden and apiary as well as a community solar garden and microgrid designed to provide electrical resilience and emergency power to the Ridgway community.
This inclusion, in addition to native plantings and water-saving measures, will allow Green Street Sustainability Park to play a significant role in helping Ridgway achieve its carbon-neutrality goal by reducing greenhouse gas emissions through clean energy initiatives. We will also work to combine habitat and biodiversity enhancements with an artful approach to outdoor community space, including intertwining pathways for exercise that connect gardens and areas for education and shade.
