Superbloom wins 2022 Jeff Harnar Award for Contemporary Architecture

Superbloom has won its first award, the 2022 Jeff Harnar Award for Contemporary Architecture in the category of Unbuilt Landscape Architecture, for their 1881 Heritage Farm Park project. The awards, given to continue groundbreaking work in the area of contemporary design, recognize works of exemplary contemporary landscape architecture in the Four Corners states that broaden the definition of Southwestern landscape architecture. For the 1881 project, Superbloom and collaborators Shape Architecture developed a vision that seeks to reconnect communities with the delicate agricultural systems of the American West. 

Situated on 10 acres of historic farming land in Aurora, Colorado, the park will serve as a new standard in sustainable design and as a focal point of connection in the newly developed Windler community. Drawing from local and regional experts in permaculture, dryland farming, aeroponics, traditional farming, orchard management, cheese-making, farm-to-fork dining, Superbloom focused on deepening knowledge of what agriculture can be and how it can positively impact the greater community. The process, lessons learned, and design iterations are being documented through a series of books. Jurors from University of New Mexico School of Architecture + Planning  Andres Jaque, Pheobe Lickwar and Carlos Jimenez recognized the project as important work about educating on sustainability culture. They loved how Superbloom’s spatial formal thinking of architecture conveyed “complexity, a history of the place, and was rich in ceremony”.
